Live every day as though it is your last.
A phrase we have heard time and time again. Created and spoken to motivate us to live our lives to the fullest without regret, I imagine. Although well intentioned, it feels so fear-based. Like a “hurry up and do it all before you’re gone” type of phrase.
And then this came to me in the middle of the night. Never knowing when insight will download, I blindly searched for a pen in the drawer of my nightstand and wrote it down on the pad of paper beside my bed…
Live as if today is the first day of the rest of your life.
That feels like a “tweet tweet” as Oprah would say. An “aha” moment.
This rephrasing sends a similar message, but releases the fear along with the past. Instead, we become present with the wonder of what’s next?
Every day we wake up and we show up with all of the tools we’ve learned from the moment we were conceived until right now. We have the opportunity to take with us what we want and leave behind what no longer serves us.
A new day. A new beginning. A chance to do it differently. Day after day.
Every day we have the opportunity to live our lives to the fullest. To do the best we can. To ebb and flow with the best of them.
Every day…as though it is our first.
